Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. The website hosts videos with commentary that analyze gender representations in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has been awarded prizes for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource for education that examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture was the result of her research. She also serves as the director of operations. Aiming to dispel the myths of women that exist in pop culture, she also works on issues related the harassing women targeted by the media and other classes of people on the internet. A graduate in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public presenter and has presented speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Inquiring about gender identity and feminism from an early age she launched her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while she was still at University. An ambitious woman who wanted to create a web series that examined the gender-based representation in video games was targeted by an online campaign. The attack did be a deterrent, but it made her more determined as a feminist critic of media. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of all of the contribution she has made. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and was the creator of Feminist Frequency. The educational nonprofit explores women's representations in the pop-culture narratives.
